We are busy preparing for the one hundredth day of school on January 29th. Students will have a special 100's snack, participate in some fun activities and host a second grade class for some fun 100 days fellowship.
Enjoy our pictures of our students holding their 100 Days Sight Word Chain as it cascades down the front stairs. The boys and girls copied 100 sight words from the Smartboard that they can read. One hundred words actually fall off the steps and onto the floor. Double click on the picture to enlarge it so you can get a better look.
Miss Faith stapled the very long chains together and Miss Kathy hung them from the ceiling. They look awesome! Congratulate your child on a job well done!

We've Been Framed!
The 100th day of school is fast approaching. Everyone's 100 frame looks great on our bulletin board. Thanks for your creative efforts. Enjoy.
Measuring
We've been using non-standard tools to measure items around our classroom. The first tool we measured with was a small plastic disc. We refer to these discs as chips. Everyone was excited to remove one shoe and measure the length with the colorful discs. We graphed our results to see who had the longest and the shortest foot. Next, we paired up and measured each other's foot. The findings were recorded and again, we graphed the results.
The next day students were placed in groups of three to work as a team. The team assigned one student to be a measurer, one to be the counter and lastly, the recorder. This time students measured with Unifix cubes and measured chairs, filing cabinets, computer benches and desks. We'll be branching out into the halls soon to measure all sorts of things with all sorts of tools!

Handwriting and Bonus Drawing
We practice handwriting skills every day. Sometimes we even add an illustration to accompany one of the words we write. For letter 'I' we were introduced to an iguana named Izzy. Reagan's iguana just jumped off the page. Don't you agree?
Journal Entry
Our students are now making one to two sentences entries in their Creative Writing Journals. Miss Kathy and I are proud of their efforts. This is no small feat. We are currently reading the Tacky the Penguin books. Thank you to Olivia for this super journal entry.
Christmas Party 2013
Christmas now seems like a long time ago. Thanks to the parents that made this party so spectacular. The children had a great time and it was a fun way to begin our Winter Break.

Penny Estimation
Several of our students have continued our estimation efforts at home. Thank you for sharing pictures of your child as he collects pennies and estimates the amount at different intervals.

High Five Award
Congratulations to this student for receiving one of Mr. Mitchell's High Five Awards. The student pictured here was recognized for tying another student's shoe for him, always picking up trash in the classroom and at lunch without being asked and being polite in manner and speak all the time! We are sure many more of our kindergarteners will receive this award.
